Naat Ki Tareef in Urdu Language
نعت عربی کا لفظ ہے جو کہ عام طور پر وصف اور بیان کے مفہوم میں استعمال ہوتا ہے۔ اس کے لغوی معنٰی صفت، وصف، جوہر، تعریف، خاصیت، گُن اور خوبی کے ہیں۔ خصوصاً جب کسی چیز کی تعریف میں مبالغے سے کام لیا جائے تو اس وقت نعت کا لفظ بولا جاتا ہے۔
اصلاحاً نبی ﷺ کے اوصاف بیان کرنے کو نعت کہتے ہیں اور نعت کہنے والے کو “ناعِت” کہتے ہیں۔ عربی لغت کے مطالعہ سے لفظ “نعت” کے مفہوم کے بارے میں جو نمایاں تاثرات اُبھرتے ہیں وہ اس لفظ کو دوسرے ہم معنی الفاظ مثلاً وصف، صفت، تعریف اور منقبت وغیرہ سے منفرد اور ممتاز ٹھہراتے ہیں۔
یہ لفظ اوصاف حمیدہ، اخلاق حسنہ اور صفات محمودہ کے لیے استعمال ہوتا ہے اور کسی شخص کے محض سرسری اوصاف بیان کرنے کےلیے استعمال نہیں ہوتا۔ البتہ نعت کا لفظ اصلاحاً رسول اللہ ﷺ کے محامد و محاسن اور حسن و جمال کے بیان کے لیے مخصوص ہے۔
احادیث میں بھی “نعت” کا لفظ واضح طور پر پیغمبر اسلام ﷺ کی تعریف و توصیف میں مستعمل نظر آتا ہے، مثلاً حضرت انس رضی اللہ تعالٰی سے مروی بیہقی کی روایت ہے کہ ایک یہودی لڑکا نبی ﷺ کی خدمت کیا کرتا تھا، وہ ایک مرتبہ بیمار پڑ گیا۔
آپ ﷺ اس کی عیادت کے لیے تشریف لے گئے۔ اس کا باپ سرہانے بیٹھا “تورات” پڑھ رہا تھا۔ آپ ﷺ نے پوچھا: اے یہودی(کیا تم تورات میں میری نعت کو پاتے ہو؟)، اُس نے جھوٹ بولتے ہوئے کہا (نہیں)۔ لڑکے نے فوراً سچ بولا (ہاں! اللہ کی قسم! اے اللہ کے رسول! ہم تورات میں آپ کی نعت (تعریف و توصیف) پاتے ہیں)۔
ثابت ہوا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے نعت کا لفظ اپنی تعریف کے لیے استعمال کیا ہے۔عربی سے فارسی اور فارسی سے اردو زبان تک پہنچتے پہنچتے یہ لفظ ایک خاص مفہوم سے وابستہ ہو گیا۔ یعنی ایسے اشعار اور تحریریں جن میں پیغمبر اسلام ﷺ کی تعریف و توصیف ہو، اُنہیں “نعت” کہتے ہیں۔

Naat Ki Tareef in Roman Urdu / Hindi
Naat arbi ka lafz hai jo k aam tor par wasf aur byan kay mafhoom main istemal hota hai. Es kay lughvi ma’ana sift, wasf, johar, tareef, khasiyat, gunn aur khoobi kay hain. Khasoosan jab kisi cheez ki tareef main mubalghay se kaam lia jaye to us waqt NAAT ka laft bola jata hai.
Islahan Nabi ﷺ kay ausaf byan karnay ko naat kehte hain aur naat kehne walay ko Na’it kehte hain. Arbi lughat kay mutala se lafz naat kay mafhoom kay baray main jo numayan tasarat ubhartay hain woh es lafz ko dusray ham ma’ana alfaz maslan wasf, sift, tareef aur manqabat waghaira se munfarid aur mumtaz thehratay hain.
Yeh lafz ausaf e hameedah, akhlaq e hasna aur sifat e mehmoodah kay liye istemal hota hai aur kisi shakhs kay mehz sarsari ausaf byan krne kay liye istemal nahi hota. Albata naat ka lafz islahan Rasoolallah ﷺ kay mahaad o mahasan aur husn o jamal kay byan kay liye makhsoos hai.
Ahadees main bhi naat ka lafz wazeh tor par Peghambar e Islam ﷺ ki tareef o touseef main mustamal nazar aata hai, maslan Hazrat Anas R.A se marvi Bahaqqi ki rawayat hai kay aik yahoodi larka Nabi ﷺ ki khidmat kia karta tha, woh aik martaba beemar par gya. Aap ﷺ us ki ayadat kay liye tashreef le gaye. Us ka baap sarhanay betha Touraat parh raha tha. Aap ﷺ ne pucha, aye yahoodi kya tum touraat main meri naat patay ho?. Us ne jhoot boltay huye kaha “Nahi”. Larkay ne forun sach bola, Haan, ALLAH ki qasam! Aye ALLAH Ke Rasool ﷺ hum touraat main aap ki naat (tareef o touseef) patay hain.
Saabit hua k Rasoolallah ﷺ ne naat ka lafz apni tareef kay liye istemal kia hai. Arbi se Farsi aur Farsi se Urdu zuban tak pohnchtay pohnchtay yeh lafz aik khas mafhoom se wabasta ho gaya. Yani aisay ash’aar aur tehreerain jin main Peghambar-e-Islam ﷺ ki tareef o touseef ho, unhain naat kehte hain.
Naat Ki Tareef in English Language
Naat is an Arabic word that is generally used in the sense of description and narration. Its literal meanings include attribute, description, essence, praise, characteristic, virtue, and excellence. Specifically, when something is praised with exaggeration, the word Naat is used.
Technically, the description of the attributes of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is called Naat, and the person who composes or recites Naat is known as a “Naat reciter” (Na‘it). A study of Arabic lexicon reveals that the term Naat holds a distinct and unique position compared to other synonymous words such as Wassf, Sifat, Tareef, and Munaqabat.
This word is used for praiseworthy attributes, noble morals, and commendable qualities and is not used for merely superficial descriptions of a person. However, in Islamic terminology, the word Naat is specifically associated with expressing the praises, virtues, and beauty of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Even in Ahadith (sayings of the Prophet ﷺ), the term Naat is explicitly used for the praise and admiration of the Prophet ﷺ. For example, it is narrated in Baihaqi’s collection of Ahadith, from Hazrat Anas (RA), that a Jewish boy used to serve the Prophet ﷺ. One day, he fell ill. The Prophet ﷺ visited him to inquire about his health. His father was sitting by his bedside, reading the Torah. The Prophet ﷺ asked him:
“O Jew, do you find my Naat (praise) in the Torah?”
He falsely replied, “No.”
However, the boy immediately spoke the truth and said, “Yes! By Allah, O Messenger of Allah! We find your Naat (praise and admiration) in the Torah.”
This incident confirms that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself used the word Naat for his own praise. As the word traveled from Arabic to Persian and then to Urdu, it became associated with a specific meaning: “Poetry or prose that praises and admires the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.”
